What a gorgeous day for an Estate Sale on Oct 17, 2025. The weather was sunny and cool around 11 degrees. This house was a hidden gem on a cul de sac in Lachine, Quebec. It had been owned by the same family since 1968. They collected things from all the way back to 1800s. There was evidence of history throughout the house.
On the first day we picked up some smaller items like Antiques books, advertising, some jewelry, sewing box, sewing notions, children toy pewter set, a wool handmade coat, a wool cape, doilies and table runners, a Dutch oven, a cane chair.
On the main floor in the grand salon there was a piano and still ample room to have a proper seating area without it being crowded. On the opposite side was the dining room with chair that seemed to have been in the family for quite some time. The walls had so much evidence of the woman's handiwork in textile. I literally was in estate sale heaven.
It seemed pretty well organized the first time I went on a Thursday or Friday. They would only allow a certain number of people in. They had someone on each floor and 2 people answering questions and pricing down stairs. I got some cool items and the woman pricing even threw in a couple of items that I thought were not in 100% condition for free. On the second day, I went back out of curiosity to see what the prices of some of the larger pieces were with a budget for one or 2 items. We picked up a chair and a Dutch oven on some sewing accessories as the larger items were still too pricey.
Then I went back a third time as I got notification via email that they were going to do one more day only for a few hours. I thought it was unusual that it was only for a few hours as there was tons of stuff still left. I was pretty selective and this time I picked up some of the beautiful hand made doilies made by the owner. There was so much linens that she had a cedar lined closed loaded with hundreds of pieces. You had to turn sideways to walk in as it was very narrow. She also had her wedding dress stored in there. I would have liked to take a picture of it but it was wrapped and at the end of this tiny narrow closet and I was starting to feel a little claustrophobic. I could have stayed all day checking the pieces out but there were other people wanting their turn to check it out. The hallway on the upper level was lined with even more bins on the floor with linens all embroidered and cross stitch, needlepoint and the quilts which apparently went on the first day. I purchased 10 pieces and they are so original. I will post them in the sale of the dollies in the blog.

Check out this beautiful door.
The front porch was all done in masonry and quite large.
This was the back of the house. The entrance was around the front.
This was the woman's dress making area in the basement. My 93 yr old neighbor spoke of her this week as the dress maker who made a lot of people's dresses in Lachine , QC.
These are just 2 of the tables in one of the rooms. There was so much to see and every visit there seemed to be more. I was in thrift heaven.

Advertising memo book from 1865 with groceries and sundries that seem so bizarre for this age.
A very old leather German designed wallet with the owner's name marked in the back
A cute floral metal tray. Perfect for your spare change, your jewelry or art supplies and business cards on your desk. I think this was one of the pieces that I got for free the day of the first sale as it was dented and lightly rusted.
A very old cowbell bell with a fantastic sound.
This could be used for a door chime with a nice piece of velvet to hang it from at Christmas time.
