So I had Henry's (my pug) chair up for sale last week on Craigslist and I had some guy Steve who wanted to buy it. We finally settled on $50.00 even though I listed it for $75.00 But it is now Tuesday and I haven't heard from Steve since Saturday, so I think the deal went dead. I just don't have the room for it anymore and now that Joey picked up another high-back chair in the garbage last week, I really don't have the room. Today while reading some make overs on FB I came across this makeover that is very similar to Henry's chair and now I want to redo it like this but not the fabric. The question is still where will I put it. Maybe at the cottage.....hmm Of course as Murphy's law would have it, Steve called me on the Thursday and bought the chair. He obviously hasn't done this before because he not only questioned the age of the piece, intensely and then asked me to change a 100.00 bill. Seriously Steve.  

I have had this little mirror for more than 20 years. It served a purpose as a key rack for keys for the garage until I was bored.....believe it or not....one day. So off the wall it goes and off to transformation dept. Now I am looking at it in a completely new way, beautiful instead of functional. Now I have to justify selling it or keeping it for the cottage.

Unfortunately I forgot to take a before picture but trust me it wasn't pretty. This cedar chest had been sitting in my neighbours garage for maybe 20 years or more. The back side and the inside were in mint condition but the top and the sides the veneer was peeling off. After several attempts at removing the veneer with a scraper and then an old iron, I gave up and sanded the edges of the last little bit that would not come off. I painted the first coat of red chalk paint and it soaked too much so I added a touch of water and this helped to spread it out. I gave the top 2 coats and then using acrylic paints, I painted with the stencil that I had made with Terraskin. I will let this dry and then add some gold edging on the words and seal with clear wax and then buff with some darker wax to give some of the edges a worn look.

This piece was a test to see how Liquitex varnish would turn on on top of 2 different types of chalk paint by Americana and Martha Stewart line. I also used some of Martha Stewart antiquing medium to mix some acrylic paints to change some of the colours. This was done on a piece of plywood that I had lying around leftovers from a project so it didn't really worry me that it wouldn't turn out. I was very pleased with the end results.
