Gelli printing, hook, line and sinker

This is the print that Elaine liked and was laminated on canvas with the matt gel I made some of my own templates for the printing with puffy paint  this is one of my linoleum carvings that I did years ago  yup I got suckered in with Gelli printing. I went for at least 2 weeks of printing when we had some family issues and I was forced to stop. There are topics all over you tube and so far Carolyn Dube and Jane Davies are my favorite. Jane Davies relaxes me and I could listen to her tutorials without the music forever. She makes everything seem so effortless. I like Carolyn because she has no fear and paints anything. So I bought 2 gelli plates, which are not cheap. The first one I had money left on my December birthday gift card from our local art supply shop, Omer DeSerres. I had to try it, and luckily it was on special and I only had to pay the taxes. It was a 6x6" which is small but I cured my fix for a couple of days when I went on our local Varage Sa...

Time to settle in and get some work done on my new desk

Check it out I finally got myself a real desk for my office. It matches the wonderful bankers chair that I got at an estate sale a while ago. Now I won't have to put my laptop away it can stay put so that I can type my head off and of course post pictures of the mess I am making on the other side of the room. I still have some issues with my iphone and need to make an appointment with Apple to have them check the camera because they are blurry. Some people are telling me not to bother and just upgrade to a new phone but I got this as a gift and can't afford a new phone so this one will just have to do. Maybe I am old school, if its not broken why not just fix it? I am also am having issues getting the photos from ether that phone of my tablet onto drop box. The problem is I need to delete stuff. Who has the time for that? And where do I put it? So here is the new/old desk that is making me so happy to get myself organized. Oh another thing that made me really happy i...

Experimenting with some new tools, Catalyst wedges and blades

While out shopping with a friend for some ceramic supplies, I came across these Catalyst wedges and blades that are usually sold at the bigger art stores for double the price. I had seen on some of the you tube channels that I follow. I picked up 3 of them, 1 just plain wedge, one with some edges on it and the blade with is not a brush but more like a spatula. They work really well on spreading mediums, paints and varnish. Not so good with inks as the inks have a tendency to absorb very quickly. I was very impressed when I worked on an image transfer how it spreads very well into a crevice. It made the clean up of the edges very simple. here is the little image transfer I made for my son's girlfriend for her birthday

Random things I paint and collect

People ask why I use these as a hashtags on Instagram and it is mostly about the painting process. I don't get too involved in any painting, as it is more about the process then the result. One may say that this may be destructive but I find it feeds my desire to paint and keeps the desire alive. If a painting doesn't take the direction that I thought it would, I will put it aside and come back to it at a later date when magically I see something in it. And the same thing goes for the random things that I collect, I will collect things and then suddenly I sell them all and start with something else.

Getting out of town

Today I ventured downtown to visit with 2 friends from High School. I hate driving in our city because there is just so much traffic and construction. I like to know exactly where it is I am going. So I decided to take the bus, metro and walk. I haven't been to St-Catherine in a long time and when I exited the Metro, I felt very disorientated not know which direction to go. I finally found my way and then found one of my friend's Darlene, who is visiting from Halifax and staying downtown. We both went shopping at |Omer Desserres and had a wonderful time. I of course got some wonderful deals on some paints from Pebeo Vitrail which were almost 1/2 price and bonus is that both of us got a sample box of Liquitex products; one small ink, can of spray paint ( I have never seen such a small can), heavy body and soft body paints. I of course tested them as soon as I got home along with the new product I am testing Tri-Art crackling medium. After our art adventure, we met with another ...

Pebeo paints still keeping me thrilled

still doing some exploring with the different Pebeo products and not too sure if some of the experiments should be chucked or not. There are really cool effects but I can stop from making everything look psychedelic. This week I went to the art store with my grandson to pick up some playdoh and in the clearance section there was a large box containing 25 prisme paints for half price from $59.00 and I picked them up because I think these are my favorites. Anyhow I got to the cash and the clerk ran them up at $9.00.....sweet. I also bought some of the crystal resin and I am not sure what I am going to use it for but I will have to make sure there is no dogs up stairs while I am doing it and most importantly that my table is level. Pictures of the fun to be posted later These two paintings actually turned out ok and I painted the design with acrylics first and then added the different pebeo paints. this is a close up shot of the relief outline  this is moon and...

some photos of my art work blown up

Grace Booney from Design Sponge had once posted a really cool site that blows up your art work in a museum but along with the old computer which died so did most of my links and I am just too lazy to go searching through my back up for it. I came across one that is even cooler by putting your work up in a house setting. ohmyprints.com
