New inspiration on repurposing some of my old maps

Once again thanks to the team at Design Sponge, I have another inspiration: http://www.designspongeonline.com/2011/03/historic-map-prints.html/comment-page-1#comment-209866 Check out this artist Jason LaFerrera who does digital art work with old maps. I am definitely getting my maps out to scan and then water color and collage.....as if I needed another idea. http://www.etsy.com/shop/laferrera?page=1&show_panel=true http://www.neatorama.com/art/2010/06/11/jason-laferrera/ source:  http://www.fleamarkettrixie.com/2011/06/furnituredecoupagemaps.html Source:  http://shannoneileenblog.typepad.com/.a/6a0120a5c8d9a9970c014e6061f442970c-popup http://www.ikeahackers.net/2010/10/mapped-out-kassett-boxes.html http://saidosdaconcha.blogspot.com/2010/12/handmade-christmas-gift-wrap.html

Water Lillies for my hubby

Chuck has been asking me to do something for the bedroom at the cottage and after playing around with a bunch of designs I finally started the painting of the water lillies which grow at the edge of our neighbors property and ours on the water front. I am happy at the progress with the painting but it still needs alot of work....it'll have to wait until our next trip to the cottage.

New paintings for 2 sweet girls

Commissioned for Liane and Vanessa....turns out that they were a labor of love. What started as a simple project turned out a little off on the eyes so I had to go back to the drawing board because I was working on them on the wall and working sideways which put the eyes off just enough to bother me. So after hours of trying to correct the mistake I landed up gessoing the eyes completely and starting all over again. They finally are finished and got 2 coats of varnish tonight and now I will prepare them for hanging.

What a great idea....clothing swap in Montreal

Save the date for the clothing swap in Montreal. I just read about it on Lady Jane's blog. http://ladyjanestreasuretrove.blogspot.com/2011/03/take-off-your-clothes-montreal.html?showComment=1300381561131#c251779910746450314 July 9 & 10, 2011 Place des Arts (indoor) Times and ticketing to be announced Two days to swap ’til you drop! Pass the news on. http://theswapteam.org/happenings/take-off-your-clothes-montreal-2 I personally can't wait and will be there. I have tons of clothing in mint condition from the 70's & 80's that I was holding on to for my daughters. They have taken most of the great clothing and shoes that have come back in style but there are still lots of dresses which they don't wear too often. So I will be off to the cleaners shortly to have everything pristine condition.

Exhibition at Lachine Library for the month of March- Kaleidoscope

This painting titled "Kaleidoscope" is on exhibition at the Lachine Library for the month of March. This frame was made by my good friend Daniel Fewtrel who is now setting up his own workshop in Ontario. It was a birthday gift which included the mdf board in the center. I had it in the studio for about a year afraid of doing something on it because it was such an amazing frame. I am happy with the results. It was also in the exhibition last year at the Maison du Brasseur in Lachine

An older painting that I never finished- Learning from my mistakes

Only because it was done in oil paint with on top of acrylic airbrush. Once you use oil paint you cannot use acrylics again. I should have thought about that but sometimes making a mistake is learning. While shopping at my favorite store the other day.....Omer Deserres, they had a new product sample at the cash which is oil paint that mixes with water.....how amazing. I will give it a try on this painting because otherwise I would have to wait until the spring to work outdoors because of the smell of the turpentine or similar solvents. So here is the painting in it's fix up stage and I will come back when finished to post the final results. I am not sure how I want to conclude it....its the center part that needs the work.

Finally after all the years of bugging me

Maryella and Jennie May finally got a piece of my art work. Everytime I was in the middle of taking a painting too far they would be there asking if they could have it. They knew it was just a matter of time that I took the painting too far and would not want it anymore. Since I promised them both something last year, I made them each from the same lino cut different birthday cards that they can frame.

Working on my art all over the house....as usual

Here are some of the latest paintings that are getting their triple thick coat of varnish. I noticed that a couple of them had some drag marks from the previous 2 coats of varnish, so off to the dining room table they went waiting for the new painting to cure and get their first coat. So as you can see from the photos, I really spread myself all over the house to do my work.....oh one day. Note of mention to a couple of the birthday girls who are getting one of these paintings....just bring me another canvas and I will continue to do a little something, something for your birthday.
