Tips on how to write your artist's statement step by step

source: http://www.artsyshark.com/2011/08/26/artist-statement/ 26 Tips How to Write Your Artist's Statement Writing Your Artist's Statement Step-By-Step   A few days ago I counseled an artist who had to prepare an Artist's Statement because he wanted to apply to the Bronx Museum AIM Program. This is one of many purposes for writing one and why it is crucial to spend time and effort to make sure yours stands out from the others. People who are attracted to your work will want to know more about the artist behind it. The Artist’s Statement offers you the opportunity to share your story, express your strong beliefs and artistic vision. As your viewers learn more about you and your intention they will become more engaged with your work and their desire to purchase it will grow. So, there is a very practical purpose for the Artist’s Statement. Simply stated, the artist Robert Henri said, “Your statement is the way you talk in paint.”  Your Artist’s

Transfer image to fabric

post via:http://abeautifulmess.typepad.com/my_weblog/2011/10/how-to-transfer-a-photo-to-fabric.html HOW TO TRANSFER A PHOTO TO FABRIC Did you know you can transfer photos to fabric without using iron-on sheets? I love this technique. It's simple to execute and the end results are really pretty. It's another method for hand printing! I made some fabrics the other day and used them to add pockets to one of my wool skirts. Do you want to learn to transfer photos to fabric? I thought so... Enjoy!  Supplies Needed: Fabric (I used white quilting cotton), Gel Medium (I used this kind from  Liquidex ), Paint Brush and the image you want to transfer. You can use *any* laser copied image or an image from a vintage magazine (that's what I used) or newspaper. Remember that if your image has words on it you will need to reverse it before copying as the words will print backwards. You'll also need a spray bottle filled with water.  How to transfer a phot

Melanie is employed by  Golden Paints  and gives a variety of workshops on how to use Golden products. This was my second workshop with her, I had already participated in her basic image transfer session, and I had signed up for her advanced class at the Westmount Visual Arts Centre . Melanie is an energetic teacher, light-hearted and talented. Check out  her website  which features her own work besides snapshots taken during her workshops. Another great thing about her workshops: she brings the BIG pots of Golden products. Regular Gloss Gel, Fiber P

New painting in progress- Modelling Paste experiment

Normally I start my paintings with a rough sketch and then work in the modelling paste. But this time I have decided to add the paint and see where it goes. And since I have a tendency of taking a painting in a completely different direction, I have my camera on hand to record the silliness that happens with my instincts. Okay so it took a completely different direction. After playing with these colours.....I didn't like it too much so it was back to the drawing board with Gesso. I think this is what I wanted and I am happy with it now. It figures my memory card reader crapped out on my. I'll load the pic as soon as I get an new one So this is where I went with it. I still have some work and details to work on.....hopefully I can stay with the same colours....we'll see This is where I started: of course I had to tint it....and then of course I went over to the other side by adding too much dark colours. This is one of the things I have a problem with...I need

Info and examples of different techniques & mediums that I want to try

It is best used if you want to pour lines on top of a work by dripping from a palette knife. You can thin it up to 1 part water and 3 parts gel. Acrylic pours with strappo  It might seem my post topics are all over the place with me jumping from a new theme to technique, but rest assured it all fits together in my head.  Last Saturday I visited friends who were doing day 2 of a strappo workshop I took at Torbay Bight Studio last year.  I wrote about it  here.   I never wrote part 2 as promised and I need to rectify that.  In
