Progress on new painting "Venus Fly trap"

Started with the airbrush using inks and Golden airbrush paints. Then I used inks on the outside of the plant to drip down and then started to add swirls to make it look like water. So this is where I am at on this painting....not sure I like where I am going with it but I will let it sit for a couple of days and eye ball it. Chuck says it looks like "Venus Flytrap" so I think this is what I will name it. I will be adding some Heavy Gloss gel on the outer edge of the flower and where the swirls or the water are and then I will highlight the texture when dry. New photos to follow when done. Okay I had this painting up for a while on the wall and I was really not liking it at all. The green was too green and after gessoing over it I decided that I didn't like the flower either so I removed most of the petals and landed up with this....I am not sure where I am going with it but I'll play around with it for a while. Update, it is now Nov and I have ...

Paintings sold or given away last year (2011)

how it progressed SOLD finished with Kitty's collection  given as a gift for Liane done for Kitty SOLD Part of Kitty's collection now This painting was started in 1980 and finished in 2011. Pastel with inks. Donated for raffle at Kitty and Daniel's house concert 2011. While doing some clean up on my studio, I came across the files for a couple of paintings that I sold or gave away as gifts last year but may have misplaced the digital files.....so after looking for a bit of time I came across them and posting them so that I don't loose track again.

Christmas gifts and latest paintings

The challenge was on for the holidays. I painted 6 paintings and I am still on a roll. I wake up every morning thinking about the next project. I just finished a portrait painting in colour which I am not really all that good at but it was a challenge anyhow. I also finished an oil painting which I started about 10 years ago and to my surprise I miss painting with oils. I don't miss the waiting time or the smells which everyone complains about but love the way the paint is easy to blend. Anyhow I figured I would post them and got on to some new commissioned projects tomorrow.  This is a painting commissioned for Lee and Maureen. It's their two grandchildren. I haven't painted faces in colour in so long because I have the hardest time with them but it was good practice.  This is my oil painting that I started about 10 years ago. I am letting the varnish dry a bit and will probably conclude it in the next couple of weeks. The background was my first experi...

Gen & Denis's Engagement gift

When I asked my daughter Krista what I could do for a painting for Gen & Denis, she said do something that she loves, Denis (which was a little difficult to do) her cat, Pistache and another favorite thing is wine. She also told me that she has an obsession with gnomes and being a gnome lover myself (see my little blurb about the time I thought my was robbed out of my back yard) but Denis hates them so I decided on something a little whimsy like her cat. I came across an a cute cat painting and then just customized it for them. She of course loved it but we can never be too sure what Denis thinks about it.
