Final results of Americana crackle medium

Here are the final results of the crackle medium that I used by Americana after adding Liquitex varnish. It was not at all what I expected but it still turned out pretty cool. This is a 6 x 12 mini painting and then just for the fun of it, I put it in the virtual museum to see what it would look like blown up.

Americana crackle medium test

Testing this crackle medium because I found the Kroma too expensive and the Golden Crackle was on back order. So far, I am loving the unique crackle that it gave. Here is what I did with it. First I applied a Golden mixed light pale green, let it dry. I applied a thick even coat of the crackle medium and let it dry 24 hours. Then I applied Golden Napthtol red light and let it dry. It didn't really crackle too much and made the light red look more orange. I painted a flower design with Montana paint markers and let dry. Then I applied one of my favourite colours, Golden Prussian Blue Hue to the background and let it dry. Here are the results on a mini 6 x 12                                                                 still wet                         ...

Work in progress Liquitex srpay paint, markers, crackle paste and lots of varnish and of course patience

This painting I started last spring and it was the first time that I had played with the Liquitex professional spray paints. Anyhow I lost the feeling to continue it and wasn't sure where it was going. I hung it up in the dinning room because it made it look very colourful. My daughter had a party some months ago and someone managed to knock it off the dining room wall, leaving a huge hole in the plaster wall, so I put it away because it's pretty big. While cleaning up and determined to conclude some of my older paintings, I pulled this one out. I still didn't know where to go with it but after working on the last painting that I used glitter I thought I would add some to this one. Of course I ran out of the puffy paint glitter half way through. I thought well why not just add some gloss medium with some paint into the existing containers....bad idea, it looked like crap. Then I decided to paint the puffy paint which looked like crap, gold. So far so good but I want to hig...

Check out this amazing artist Carol Nelson - painting on aluminium foil

I came across this technique by artist Carol Nelson and this is one technique I would love to play with. As indicated by Carol,  This painting glows because the rock shapes are painted on aluminum foil with transparent Golden fluid acrylics.  The light bounces off the foil and back through the paint glazes, giving a remarkable glowing effect.
