I am going to play with a new medium, White Opaque Flakes by Liquitex

Okay I fooled around a bit with the white opaque flakes and didn't really find anything special about them. I used them on a board that I was hacking around trying to get an antique feel like Mae Chevrette but I never managed to get anywhere close to how cool her paintings are. So here are the results which I am not sure if I liked. I will look to see what other artist out there are doing with them but not something that really pulled my chain. It is hard to see but I added the opaque flakes in the bead like pieces of the chandelier and then added some irredentist medium to make them brighter  I have been doing work at the cottage getting it ready for our vacation and here at home, purging and getting rid of things we are no longer using. It makes me so happy when I put things to the curb the day before and they get picked up. Right now I am just too lazy to drive them over to the place that recycles just about everything. I do plan to do some new paintings and conclud...

Playing around with Liquitex Pouring Medium

Here is a painting that I didn't really like so much and I was just playing around with it trying to get out of my painting block and then I added some pouring medium to it.....I will probably add another layer or 2 to it before I give it the final coat. this was the older painting I started blocking out some of background colours but it was looking like a chicken on rolling skates and a flower head more blocking with black  now adding some gesso and playing with some other colours and not liking where I am going but still playing around more editing to happen  adding some paint with pouring medium  finally dry....but still more playing happening. Pictures to follow added more colour....but still more playing happening. Pictures to follow

My product review on the new Professional water based Liquitex Spray Paints

Wow I was so excited to try the new water based Spray Paints by Liquitex. They are inter mixable with acrylic paint. Last week I attended a demo hosted by Francoise Issaly who in my opinion does a wonderful  demo as she is very enthusiastic about working with different mediums, anyhow she did a 2 hour demo on various products and processes, one being image transfer (which has been a fascination of mine for the last couple of years), Pouring medium and also the new spray paints. I called Omer Deserres the following day to find out they had them in stock. I bought 4 of my favourite colours, Red, Yellow, Blue and Gold. All transparent except for the Gold. I played around with them on some old grunge boards I had and was quite happy with them, considering that I do Airbrush, it was a lot simpler to use this than pull out the compressor and have to clean my airbrush. I did as advised and removed the nozzles and cleaned them after turning the cans up...

Some questions about the Liquitex Pouring Medium

Here are some question that I have about the Liquitex Pouring Medium: Do I need to varnish over the medium? If I use it on glass with it fade in the sun? I have a great old window which was the original to this cottage which I would love to put in the window facing my neighbours brick wall that I look at. How do I get clean crisp edges? There are some recommedations to build a frame and also use masking tape on the edges. See what Nancy Reyner recommends down below Should I allow the drip to show over the edges. Some people say it looks cool but I am not sure if it would be considered professional. I did see a painting that it did puddle quite a bit over the edges and the pouring medium that made large circles on the base of where it had dripped over was kept and then applied to the wall for presentation of the art work. When I come across the photo again I will add it to this post. I came across some info from the following source :  http://www.nancyreyner.com/blog/...

The testing board has been getting alot of excess Liquitex Spray lately

I had better stop using this as my back drop test board for the spraying because I have 2 people who have fallen in love with it. I will most likely do a pouring medium to coat on the top....that should take a couple of bottles.....gee Omer DeSerres when are the gallons going back on special?

Some changes in a painting with Liquitex Pouring Liquid

are you still standing, of course not, you are sitting....can you believe the changes in this piece? For those of you that know me, it is not unusual for me to switch up a painting....some of you even hate the fact that I do this....I call it artistic license. I sometimes get a little worried by maybe having a little sweat on my forehead but ultimately it is my gut that drives me to do what I do when I change. I know some of the pieces are what you are consider as "so amazing" or "oh so nice" but in the end it is me that needs to feel so sort of satisfaction with the piece and since I am the one in charge I can't help myself when I do some big changes. I hope that they are all part of the process of being liked but I am not worried because in the end I won't sell or put up a piece that I personally don't like. So here is the piece and where I was going with it Today I decided to experiment with some of my pouring medium and after the piece has ...

Inspiration and my version using Liquitex products

Inspiration:   my version: I'll let it dry and play around a little with some of my Liquitex markers Painting completed and then added pouring medium to give the glass like look

Pouring medium experiments with Liquitex Pouring medium and markers

A couple of the other experiments with pouring medium on mini 6x12 canvases This was an 8x8 painting that I didn't like so it got poured on I love this one and want to do a huge 24x36 like this....gotta wait for this size to go on special This is the product that spilt over into my container which I thought I could peel off like a skin but the container was too porous. So from here on I will use plastic wrap. This is the pouring medium and then I painted in with Liquitex markers

2 paintings "remember me" with Liquitex Paints and markers SOLD

I combined the new spray paints with the new paint markers that I bought this week. I only purchased the smaller ones and got just 4 colours, white, blue, orange and gold which are some of my favorite colours for details. So far I am having fun because I love doing detailed work with markers.....hopefully I can finish the 2 paintings for the exhibition next week. If not I have a couple of other smaller gallery style canvases that I can submit by next Thurs for the hanging. So this is just the draft phase, photos to follow on where I went with these markers. So here is where I started, randomly spraying some of the Liquitex spray paints on 2 separate Gallery style canvases I started detailing with Liquitex marker white first to outline the flowers and then started adding some highlights with some of the other Liquitex paint markers. I have to go back and purchase black, red, green, and yellow to add more details. These 2 paintings were done in memo...

Loving the new spray paints- painting in the works

Since my first review of the Liquitex spray paints, I have done at least 5 paintings and I am completely addicted. It is alot easier to work on a painting with just the sprays instead of having to set up my airbrush which takes so much time setting up and cleaning up and then of course my compressor is very loud. So having said all that, I am happy to be painting. This painting is 24 x 36 and it is way too big to put into the up coming exhibition but I will post it for sale when completed on Facebook.

Another new painting

Boy I sure am loving the spray paints.....especially the little splatters. I started this painting yesterday. Today I did some detailing and just added some gloss medium. I will let it dry for a day or two before I touch it again

Pouring medium and spray paints

This is one that I have been playing around with some pouring medium along with some of the sprays. It is pretty cool and it has a little bit of a crackling effect. Now I am not sure if I want to edge with black or white...so I have left it to hang until I decide.

Playing with Liquitex spray paints

Okay I wrote my first review about the spray paints and I wasn't too pleased with the fact that one of the cans clogged up after my first application. I called Omer Desseres where I purchased them and they were willing to do an exchange....cool. Normally they are sticklers on their return policy especially since it clearly states no returns for spray paint on the receipt. Anyhow I played around a bit with the paints, spraying random colours and dragging some of the colour with my paint brush and some of my palette knives....real cool how the colour underneath a fresh spray comes through. I love how the different colours pop on this part.  The first painting which I played with has already been sold. I need to do a little more detailing with the white. I am using a Liquitex concentrated titanium white, so it is quite bright. I like it and so does Nathalie (who bought it) I will then let it sit for a week and add the final varnish and do the edges so that ...

Fear in creating or as I like to call it experimenting

I came across this statement via blog: http://www.sandraduranwilson.blogspot.ca/  just when I was having a little fear of a couple of new mediums; Pouring liquid and the new Paint Sprays by Liquitex Sometimes creating art is like looking into another dimension. Sometimes fear can keep one from jumping into that dimension. To be successful as an artist we must step into that fear. When you focus on your doubts, fears and perceived inadequacies, you will be haunted by fear of failure. When you bring your focus to your strengths and talents you will find your courage. What you think, is more important than anything else in finding your courage. Practice stepping into the fear and embracing your confidence, it will become easier. Make a daily habit of jumping into your altered dimension where you are brave, successful and able to leap over tall buildings. May the force be with you. So tomorrow I will pull out some grunge boards and just experiment until I no longer have a ...
