Colour combinations

Great interactive site showing colour  combinations. http:// colorschemedesigner.com/

Check out this amazing artist Carol Nelson - painting on aluminium foil

I came across this technique by artist Carol Nelson and this is one technique I would love to play with. As indicated by Carol,  This painting glows because the rock shapes are painted on aluminum foil with transparent Golden fluid acrylics.  The light bounces off the foil and back through the paint glazes, giving a remarkable glowing effect. A little rework on existing pouring medium and new love Golden Flow aid

Here are some of the existing pouring medium experiments This one got a little more poured medium added to certain areas for a nice little relief  This one just got more colour....but I am still not sure if I am liking it. Some of the Golden Flow aid experiments. Note it took over a day to dry These babies will be getting a nice pouring medium resin like finish over the weekend.

Experimenting again with Golden Paints, Flow aid and Golden airbrush paints

Here are some of the paintings with flow aid by Golden and some paintings on the line up for rework. Just when you think you are in love with a certain medium along comes another that you just want to paint with forever but being a multi medium artist, I just seem to go from one to another, falling more and more in love. I worked on 2 small paintings last week with the flow aid for the first time in the series of the lake scenes and mixed the water with the flow aid first, then added the paint and then applied to the canvas. These turned out nice but I found there was a lot of wastage after I had mixed the flow aid and paint so this time I added the flow aid with the water and let it bubble a bit and then applied it to the canvas without any colour and took clean brushes for each colour and dipped them onto the wet canvas. Amazing I all I can say.  Now for those of you who know me, it is going to be very hard for me not to add too much detail to these babies because I am a

Some questions about the Liquitex Pouring Medium

Here are some question that I have about the Liquitex Pouring Medium: Do I need to varnish over the medium? If I use it on glass with it fade in the sun? I have a great old window which was the original to this cottage which I would love to put in the window facing my neighbours brick wall that I look at. How do I get clean crisp edges? There are some recommedations to build a frame and also use masking tape on the edges. See what Nancy Reyner recommends down below Should I allow the drip to show over the edges. Some people say it looks cool but I am not sure if it would be considered professional. I did see a painting that it did puddle quite a bit over the edges and the pouring medium that made large circles on the base of where it had dripped over was kept and then applied to the wall for presentation of the art work. When I come across the photo again I will add it to this post. I came across some info from the following source :  http://www.nancyreyner.com/blog/ wi

Our Koi in the pond

check out the size of this guy, by the end of the summer he is going to be huge. That is if the racoons or skunks don't get to them.

The testing board has been getting alot of excess Liquitex Spray lately

I had better stop using this as my back drop test board for the spraying because I have 2 people who have fallen in love with it. I will most likely do a pouring medium to coat on the top....that should take a couple of bottles.....gee Omer DeSerres when are the gallons going back on special?

Some changes in a painting with Liquitex Pouring Liquid

are you still standing, of course not, you are sitting....can you believe the changes in this piece? For those of you that know me, it is not unusual for me to switch up a painting....some of you even hate the fact that I do this....I call it artistic license. I sometimes get a little worried by maybe having a little sweat on my forehead but ultimately it is my gut that drives me to do what I do when I change. I know some of the pieces are what you are consider as "so amazing" or "oh so nice" but in the end it is me that needs to feel so sort of satisfaction with the piece and since I am the one in charge I can't help myself when I do some big changes. I hope that they are all part of the process of being liked but I am not worried because in the end I won't sell or put up a piece that I personally don't like. So here is the piece and where I was going with it Today I decided to experiment with some of my pouring medium and after the piece has

4 paintings, 2 different mediums

I started 4 new mini 6 x 12" paintings today, same idea 2 different mediums. 2 are done with flow aid and then heavy gel is applied after it dried. The other's two are with acrylic medium and then coated with high gloss medium. the high gloss medium is still curing after 8 hrs. The flow aid gave wonderful soft results.  The acrylic medium extended the colors  I like both results but not sure if the heavy gel is the way to go.  Next test will be with pouring mediums.

New product testing with Golden acrylic flow release

I saw this product demo and had to try it. I like the staining look but I am not sure how it will go on top of the modelling paste. I know that diluted acrylics with water seems to do the trick but I loved the stained washed look better and I am hoping that I can tilt the colours a bit to let them run. I will be starting test on some old pieces of water colour paper and raw canvas and then with modelling paste. Photos to follow 1st test on water colour paper: 100lb hot pressed paper on an old project which I never completed Added magenta, and yellow and then mixed in some blue to get the green It is a little streaky but holds up well.  look even my palette looks like a flower My next test on water colour paper will be on wet paper. I came across some interesting blogs and demos about the product and I will include them in my blog for future reference. Playing around and mixing up some mediums

I woke up with an idea in my head to mix gloss medium with pouring medium. Here is the process in the photos. The pouring medium didn't do what I had intended and I wasn't sure if I liked the result at first. I let it cure over night and had a closer look at it....I still wasn't happy. So I decided to see if I could like the skin from the canvas but I guess because I had the gloss medium underneath, it stuck to it. So instead of fighting with something I didn't really like, I decided to mimic it but adding most of the same colours and shape around it. The only colour I didn't use was green which has a bad relationship with me. There are only a couple of greens that I like to paint with and lately it seems like it sticks out like a sore thumb. So I try to mix it where I can. Anyhow here is the progress of this new painting after I sprayed the outside with some Liquitex spray paints. I am still not sure if I will add some metallic
