More chalk paint experiments

As you can see I am so totally in love with chalk paint. I haven't worked on 1 canvas since I bought the chalk paint. I will have to conclude all the projects and hopefully finish up all the chalk paint and then get my butt in gear and back to painting on canvases. I have given myself a deadline to conclude and seal all these wonderful pieces that I am working on and get back to my acrylics, inks and water colours and it is next Friday. This is a wonderful candelabra which my mother in law gave me. She had brought it from Haiti when she lived there. I loved it but found the wood to dark and you couldn't appreciate the detail but now it just pops.      These are some little carved out molds that I bought at a garage sale many years ago but had no colour and were just calling to me. I am not sure the white is what I was looking for but I will leave them for now and wax them and sand them down a bit. Maybe a nice hunter or mossy green would be nice on top of the white

Latest Chalk paint makeover

Unfortunately I forgot to take a before picture but trust me it wasn't pretty. This cedar chest had been sitting in my neighbours garage for maybe 20 years or more. The back side and the inside were in mint condition but the top and the sides the veneer was peeling off. After several attempts at removing the veneer with a scraper and then an old iron, I gave up and sanded the edges of the last little bit that would not come off. I painted the first coat of red chalk paint and it soaked too much so I added a touch of water and this helped to spread it out. I gave the top 2 coats and then using acrylic paints, I painted with the stencil that I had made with Terraskin. I will let this dry and then add some gold edging on the words and seal with clear wax and then buff with some darker wax to give some of the edges a worn look.

First collage painting in a long time

I had this painting that I had done some time ago and didn't really like it and this week I decided to do some collage with all the extra papers that I had been collecting for some time.

Here are some of the Montreal scene paintings that have been done recently

Chalk paint using Americana Decor and Martha Stewart

This piece was a test to see how Liquitex varnish would turn on on top of 2 different types of chalk paint by Americana and Martha Stewart line. I also used some of Martha Stewart antiquing medium to mix some acrylic paints to change some of the colours. This was done on a piece of plywood that I had lying around leftovers from a project so it didn't really worry me that it wouldn't turn out. I was very pleased with the end results.

Chalk Paint experiment with Americana Decor and Martha Stewart Chalk paints

I just recently found out through Instagram that Annie Sloan has a chalk paint (which is not available here in Quebec) that doesn't require any sanding before painting. I have this real cute old buffet cabinet that isn't really a nice piece the way it is and I have been dying to paint it for some years. So one day while searching the liquidation isle at Michaels I came across Americana Decor chalk paint for $3.95 and it was one of my favourite colours, turquoise....score the regular price was $16.99. So I went and had a look to see what other colours they had but then came across Martha Stewart's line that was on special for $10.19 so I picked up 3 colours, light baby blue, wedding cake white and mossy green. I came home and ripped apart my studio looking for small wooden boxes to paint before I attempted on the large buffet. So that was 2 weeks ago and I have now done a rocking chair and the pillow that was outdated since you can paint on fabric with this paint. I also te
