Loving the new spray paints- painting in the works

Since my first review of the Liquitex spray paints, I have done at least 5 paintings and I am completely addicted. It is alot easier to work on a painting with just the sprays instead of having to set up my airbrush which takes so much time setting up and cleaning up and then of course my compressor is very loud. So having said all that, I am happy to be painting. This painting is 24 x 36 and it is way too big to put into the up coming exhibition but I will post it for sale when completed on Facebook.

Another new painting

Boy I sure am loving the spray paints.....especially the little splatters. I started this painting yesterday. Today I did some detailing and just added some gloss medium. I will let it dry for a day or two before I touch it again

Preparing for exhibition

I am in the midst of a couple of unfinished paintings and varnishing a couple of others for the exhibition. I will ask for votes on which one's should go in the exhibit. I have a couple of other paintings floating around but I will have to find the digital copies and post them. Here are the 2 unfinished paintings. Love this statement by Artist Lara Merrett

source:http://thedesignfiles.net/2012/03/interview-lara-merrett/# I came across this interview with Artist Lara Merrett and I just had to share the statement about her art process: Can you give us a little insight into your process? What materials do you use? Is each work pre-planned or created very intuitively? Do you work on multiple canvases at one time? And how long does each work take to complete? I only work with water-based materials, which include inks, acrylics, vinyl and metallics. No work is ever pre-planned, however each work does inform the next. They become a family or chapters in an idea. I mostly start a painting flat on the floor and move around the work pouring lots of colours over the canvas. I always have at least six works in progress, but this eventually narrows down to the work I become most obsessed with. I have to feel a strong pull toward the work or I won’t work on it at all. It’s like magic when the unexpected starts to happen. I love it… it’s

My new waterproof & up to -25 Sorel boots

I have been watching this sale at The Bay here in Montreal for a bit and finally couldn't resist the price any more. They were 50% off the original price of $250.00. I don't spend that much money on myself since I don't work but if you live in Quebec, you need good boots. My old root boots were just not keep the toes warm any more. And even though it is late in the season, this is the time to buy at discounted prices. I have heard great reviews about Sorel's boots. Look at how cute they are:

Advice for Artists from Claudia Chin, Art Dealer

Contemporary art is mysterious, intriguing, ironic or humourous. It is art that provokes a reaction in the viewer; it triggers conversation.   What is the art about? Does it explore a cultural, social or environmental subject? I am interested in the ideas. Technique is secondary.   How is photography or any art created from photography art? The image is flat. There is no depth. The art has no soul. True art has a soul.   Photo-painting is not art. Photo-painting is a painting created from a photograph. A flat image without a soul which is then covered with layers of paint.   A great artist can draw from imagination, observation or memory. Excellent drawing skills are required to be a great artist.   Leave your ego & expectations at home. You are not the only artist of the gallery. Or are you running your own vanity gallery?   Get involved in your own art career. Pouring medium and spray paints

This is one that I have been playing around with some pouring medium along with some of the sprays. It is pretty cool and it has a little bit of a crackling effect. Now I am not sure if I want to edge with black or white...so I have left it to hang until I decide.

Playing with Liquitex spray paints

Okay I wrote my first review about the spray paints and I wasn't too pleased with the fact that one of the cans clogged up after my first application. I called Omer Desseres where I purchased them and they were willing to do an exchange....cool. Normally they are sticklers on their return policy especially since it clearly states no returns for spray paint on the receipt. Anyhow I played around a bit with the paints, spraying random colours and dragging some of the colour with my paint brush and some of my palette knives....real cool how the colour underneath a fresh spray comes through. I love how the different colours pop on this part.  The first painting which I played with has already been sold. I need to do a little more detailing with the white. I am using a Liquitex concentrated titanium white, so it is quite bright. I like it and so does Nathalie (who bought it) I will then let it sit for a week and add the final varnish and do the edges so that
