ideas for painting stairs

I stripped the paint off my stairs in my house over 20 years ago with full intention of doing something like this with ceramics but of course I wouldn't be writing about it if it was done. So this is a picture of some that I like but I think I will make the template out of terra skin and do it by the end of the summer.....or maybe a winter project. I am in love with the    Benjamin Moore  754 Wilmington Spruce wall color too.  Source: http://www.designsponge.com/2015/06/a-singular-santa-cruz-victorian-fit-for-a-queen.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+designsponge%2Fnjjl+%28Design*Sponge%29 http://www.stripedesigngroup.com/blogs/news?page=2

Recipe for Chalk paint - via Lowe's

Chalk-Finish Paint Recipe Mix your own chalk-finish paint using the following supplies: Valspar flat latex paint Plastic paint buckets (#40008) Plaster of Paris (#41323) Stir sticks Plastic measuring cups (do not reuse for food) Water (cool, not warm) Paste wax (#45898) Mix 1/3 cup of plaster of Paris and 1/3 cup of cool water; stir until completely smooth. Mix that with 1 cup of latex paint and stir thoroughly. This will make enough chalk-finish paint for one coat on a six-drawer dresser. Chalk-finish paint should not be stored and reused. If you have a smaller project, mix smaller amounts of plaster, paint, and water in the same proportions. How To Apply a Chalk-Finish Paint Apply the First Layer Practice painting a scrap board before tackling a project. When layering different paint colors for a distressed finish, apply a heavier base coat than top coat. Work quickly -- chalk-finish paint dries fast -- and immediately remove any particles i

Henry's chair chalk paint make over

So I had Henry's (my pug) chair up for sale last week on Craigslist and I had some guy Steve who wanted to buy it. We finally settled on $50.00 even though I listed it for $75.00 But it is now Tuesday and I haven't heard from Steve since Saturday, so I think the deal went dead. I just don't have the room for it anymore and now that Joey picked up another high-back chair in the garbage last week, I really don't have the room. Today while reading some make overs on FB I came across this makeover that is very similar to Henry's chair and now I want to redo it like this but not the fabric. The question is still where will I put it. Maybe at the cottage.....hmm Of course as Murphy's law would have it, Steve called me on the Thursday and bought the chair. He obviously hasn't done this before because he not only questioned the age of the piece, intensely and then asked me to change a 100.00 bill. Seriously Steve.

My personal notes for shopping, and storing of Art Supplies

I could shop every day for art supplies, if I had money and the time to do it. But instead I keep a list in my studio of what I need and try to buy when there is a promotion. This takes a lot of discipline. These are 3 things remember; 1) There will always be a sale every couple of months so just hold your breath. 2) Don't buy what you will not be using within the next 6 months unless it is something that is hard to find. 3) Never buy value packs canvases, they are just no good. Spend the extra bit of money to get a good quality. Having said that I do periodically have to go out for a specific paint that I am using on commissioned pieces that I run out of and of course varnish, which seems to always run out when I need it. My cost saving tips: I purchase a lot of mediums that I use on a regular basis, in gallons. Buy paints that I use a lot in bulk. Purchase only when a promo happens for items you know you will be using. I buy in large quantities of things that I use a
